Our Human Approach to Hiring
The Champion Companies has a passion for our people and giving back to the community. We own and operate a portfolio of communities with nearly 5,000 Class A apartment homes. Our team is setting the standard for apartment living in Central Ohio. When you need an apartment in and around Columbus, we want to be the obvious choice.
Champion was founded in 2010 with an idea: if we find the best people– regardless of their experience– with great integrity, work ethic and a positive attitude– and we make their personal growth our priority– those people will in turn help build and maintain a great company.
We call this idea our Human Approach to Hiring.

Our Application Process
How to Get Noticed by Our HR Team
Our people are our biggest differentiator. We believe in hiring the right person, then provide extensive training so that you learn the ins and outs of our business. For this reason, we do not require any previous industry experience for our positions.
Please take the time to match your skills and interests with the opportunity that excites you the most. We’re looking for people who are excited to come to work each day, enjoy what they do in their role and like being part of a team.
Resume & Preparation
Focus on your resume. Once you’ve proofread your resume, ask a trusted friend or relative to review it. Don’t simply focus on proofreading for grammar and spelling. Review content, punctuation, formatting, accuracy and headings.
Match Your Skills
Match your skills to the position you are applying for. Prioritize highlighting skills that will translate well to the role. This is your chance to show us how and why you would be a good fit at Champion.
What We’re Looking For
At Champion, we’re not looking for candidates with prior industry experience. We’re searching for people who will work hard, be a good teammate and give their best each day. We look for team members to be solutions oriented, who are self starters, have a desire to grow and a positive, can-do attitude. If this type of environment excites you, we encourage you to apply!

Our Interview Process
How to Ace the Interview
We promise that your Champion interview will be unlike any other you’ve experienced. We’re more interested in finding out who you are as a person, rather than exploring typical interview topics. We want to know if you get energized by building relationships. If you like accomplishing goals with your team. And if you find joy in being in service to others. This approach has helped form our unique, award-winning culture, and it makes for happy residents too — just check out our reviews!
Phone Interview
If your application is selected to move forward with the interview process, you will hear from our HR manager who will schedule a phone interview. During the phone interview, our HR manager will share additional information about the position you applied for and about Champion. Set aside an hour for the phone interview so you don’t feel rushed. We want you to have plenty of time to ask us questions.
In-Person Interview
If you are asked to proceed to the in-person phase of the interview process, you can expect to come to our corporate office for the interview. All in-person interviews begin with our HR manager. After you speak with HR, you will have the opportunity to speak with 2-3 leaders of the team you applied to join. We recommend candidates allow 1.5 hours for an in-person interview.
Tips for Success
- • Be on time for both your phone interview and in-person interview.
- Dress professionally.
- • Be yourself! We’re trying to get a sense of who you are during the interview. Don’t be afraid to show us your personality.
- • You are interviewing us, too. Ask us questions to determine if Champion is the right fit for you.
- •Take notes during any interview so that you remember specifics about the job and company.

Joining the Team
The First 90 Days at Champion
Did you receive a job offer? Congratulations! We hope you decide to join our award-winning team. We take pride in welcoming our newest team members to the Champion family and strive to make the on-boarding process as smooth as possible. We have built a robust training program to help each new team member get acclimated, regardless of their past experience.
Here’s what you can expect in your first 90 days with Champion:
Extensive on the Job Training
We’ll take the time to ensure you are fully prepared to be successful in your new role. We have found that our new team members start to get the hang of things around 90 days in, but really feel confident in their abilities after 6 months. Learning the role will take time, especially if you don’t have any industry experience. We will provide you with a detailed progress report to help track your training and to make sure you are confident in every aspect of the role.
In addition to the training you’ll receive from being on site, you will have consistent access to our most experienced leaders, who are a great resource when learning the industry.
Mentorship Program
At Champion, we’re proud of the Mentorship Program we’ve implemented. When you begin your new role, you’ll get to select a mentor to meet with on a regular basis during your first 6 months. Your mentor is a great person to talk through any challenges or big wins as you get situated in your new role.
Tips for Success (All-In Mindset)
When you’re all in for Champion, Champion will be all in for you. What does being all in mean, exactly? It means cheering on every team member around you, it means being flexible and adaptable to new opportunities and challenges, and it means owning your 20 sq. ft. each and every day, understanding that when you’re giving your very best to your role, you’re making the organization as a whole its very best.
