The Champion Companies sells 1,700 units to cap off record year 2021
Westerville, OH – The Champion Companies capitalized on the market hunger for multifamily assets in 2021, selling approximately 1,700 units throughout its portfolio in Central Ohio.
The eight communities that Champion sold attracted four different national buyers who all wanted to increase their footprint in the Central Ohio apartment market. These combined transactions totaled $300mm.
“Each of these dispositions brought out-of-state buyers, capital and resources into Columbus, Ohio, which is emerging as one of the strongest apartment markets in the country,” said Brian Yeager, Champion’s president and CEO.
Yeager attributes the appetite for multifamily investment in Columbus to the city’s consistent growth in both population and jobs, leading to demand that’s outpacing supply for all types of real estate, from apartments to single-family homes. “Buyers are looking at Columbus for multifamily investment because of our strong fundamentals,” said Yeager. “Those fundamentals are why we chose to establish our company here, and why even after 11 years in business, we still think opportunity abounds in our own backyard.”
Champion has now closed over $2 billion in multifamily development, acquisitions, and dispositions in its history, involving more than 20,000 units and $250 million in equity investments.
